Givenchy

My love of Riccardo Tisci's work for Givenchy is practically boundless and this season he did not fail to impress me. With vivid red among the typical monochrome and alpine prints next to lace, the collection was an interesting melding of ideas. Geometry was also highly attended to, in terms of structure and print. Gorgeous sheer fabrics and feathers provided a lighter turn for the heavy collection. This is the sort of strong glamour one comes to expect from Givenchy. A wonderful mix of sex, dreaminess, and strength is what sprouted my adoration for Givenchy and all are present in this gorgeous collection.

I am obsessed with grilled cheese.

This is a photo from inside a school bus that serves as the seating area for a the Grilled Cheese Grill in Portland.

Over two days, I ate 3 sandwiches from the lovely establishment. One was called the Jersey and the others were Southsiders. The Southsider may have just been the equivalent of culinary heaven in my mind. The hot mozzarella, delicious sundried tomatoes, perfect artichokes, and mushrooms on sourdough. Mmmmmm. My stomach is growling just thinking about it. I miss Portland. I miss Gillian. I'm gonna run away.

Boys that look like girls.

I think I have a crush on Andrew Mukamal from Kell on Earth.

I'm re-watching The September Issue and Grace notes about Couture shows, "I always mark too many things."
This slight similarity to myself just gave me a little smile.

John Galiano

Upon reading the review for John Galiano's latest show on style.com, I was distressed. It drew comparisons to his two previous collections, as if it was re-hashed fashion. I could not get myself to look at it myself for the longest time and breathed a sigh of relief upon finding Galiano had not lost his touch. There are definite similarities in theme and presentation, but this new collection brought plenty of excitement to the runway. The idea that: because fashion is moving towards a more simple aesthetic designers should yield to it, is absolutely absurd. This collection was a celebration of mixing cultures. The girl was a world traveler, living off her own curiosity and heart. And it was beautiful. Galiano will die when his clothes become quiet. I will die when his show doesn't transport me to a far away land. So thanks John. Never cease to be the genius that you are.

Celine

After her long-awaited return to fashion, Phoebe Philo has been causing quite a stir since her first Resort collection for Celine in June of 2009. It is my belief that she has single-handedly spurred the great movement toward simplicity that I described in my Stella review. There is something so beautifully clean about the clothes she has produced for the French house thus far, and her Fall/Winter 2010 collection brings no exceptions. From the amazing coats to the leather separates, it all has power in its wearability. Wearable to me generally indicates a boring quality to something or a normalcy, but this collection is so utterly sophisticated and sexy that I can say the dirty word with confidence. Miss Philo, you have opened my eyes into the power of simplicity. That said, a shift in my personal style has not come to pass. In any case, Celine doesn't look to be leaving the spotlight any time soon.

Postsecret

Karl Lagerfeld

Uncle Karl showed yet another collection full of his unwavering Germanic strength. Also present was his infatuation with technology, evidenced in the new patent leather he used that looked remarkably like PVC. The collection was an interesting intersection between past, present, and future, done Karl's way. Love.
