Giambattista Valli

Not too long ago, I had no idea who Giambattista Valli was. Of course, he's only had his own label for five years. I may have seen his name, but I had no attachment or knowledge of his work. Sasha Pivovarova changed that when she went to the Met ball, with him, in a minidress and peacock feathered shrug/cape of sorts. I am all about decadence and heavy embellishment, so I fell in love. Leigh Lezark wore a similar peacock feathered piece to his Spring/Summer 2010 show from his previous ready-to-wear collection. This season, it was all about the short party dresses sported by it girls everywhere. There were lots of featheres, sheer, fringed skirts, along with looks that were more simple and ladylike. But of course, I am more intrigued by the more flouncy, flirty side of the collection. The looks I'm featuring aren't exactly comprehensive, but they were what really got my blood pumping. Stella McCartney

I adore Stella McCartney and after her fall show, I couldn't wait to see what she was offering up this season. This season she focused on easy dressing. As the looks came out, many were very simple, and then a great rush of frills and color erupted onto the runway. The latter looks were my favorites, but the earlier looks were still quite beautiful. I admire the fact that Stella's clothes are all animal-free. Even though I'm a vegetarian, I find my love for fashion conflicting with my love for animals. With her spring/summer 2010 collection, McCartney has another creative and compassionate hit on her hands.

Givenchy

Givenchy is another French house that I will adore until the day I die. Always interesting and always cutting-edge, Riccardo Tisci mixed light with dark, and hard with soft. There was excellent black and white suiting, as well as some rather psychadelic prints, and in contrast, a number of more floaty dresses. This collection was certainly not disappointing.

The fashion genius started his show off with simple, pared down pieces that were still very Karl in their architecture. Perfect pairs of shorts were seen throughout the collection, as were some rather unexpected onesies. Even a red leather jumper made an appearance. The show ended with several metal-embellished dresses that I'm absolutely dying over. There's a reason this man is at the helm of Chanel.

Jean Paul Gaultier

Notorious for Madonna's cone bra, Jean Paul Gaultier revisited lingerie in quite an interesting way. Certainly not subtle were the bras and corsets, but what made me decide to post on him, was his L.A. gang girl inspiration. Yes, you read that right. The models wore tight braids and tattoos of their names along with baggy overalls and combat boots. Towards the end of the show, the clothes softened a little, and the finale walk featured the girls down to their panties. You gotta love JPG for this show... At least I do.

Christian Dior

John Galiano's most recent inspiration was the femme fatale characters seen in Forties film noir. The models, with red lips and perfectly wavy movie star hair, walked in the unabashedly evocative collection, which included a variety of lingerie-like clothes. Lace was everywhere and the glamour that is Dior shined through in a beautiful way. A woman who wears these clothes is no prude, but stays elegant all the same. Liberation seems to be the goal, so I hope to see some brave starlets strutting around in all of these incredible creations.
