GaGa inspires me to create, but school consumes most of my time. I feel a bit torn between two lives. Anyway, I must be going to sleep. A rundown of my glorious weekend in Portland will be finding its way onto the blog soon, along with posts about London Fashion Week. For now, I am relatively incapable as I am a zombie.

Anna Sui

Charles Rohlfs (furniture designer), The Three Stooges, and the American Arts and Crafts movement are three things I know very little about, so it's a good thing that I have such a creative teach in Anna Sui. As a matter of fact, I might kill to have Anna teach me anything in real life. She'd be like the one teacher you actually get along with, who is actually totally awesome, and who actually gives a shit about what she's doing. To get back on track, Anna talked about the Arts and Crafts movement as a reaction to the Industrial age and her collection being a reaction to the technological age. I find that to be quite an interesting concept. The collection itself was classic Anna, with the recurring 60s/70s vibe in her work. Color, joy, optimism, and smiling models always make her show a standout.
And what a standout it was.

Proenza Schouler

This season, Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez, perfectly encapsulated something potentially fetishistic, while still producing women's clothes for women and not women's clothes for men. Here we have a school girl who is ever so slightly naughty, sporting thigh high stockings and clothes with peek-a-boo details, but she's certainly not giving anything away. I love that they've made the girl harder and even a bit gothic; a huge step away from the typical Lolita idea. Sure, this girl is still coy, but could probably tear you to pieces, or just kick the shit out of you with those amazing platforms. Thanks boys, for this killer collection. Top marks.

I just looked at Proenza and I absolutely adored it, but it's now almost 2am and I should get going to bed. Or maybe I should go ahead with the post because I'm feeling sleep-deprived and I'll produce something both mad and brilliant. Meh. I'm thinking no. Proenza Schouler tomorrow. And Anna Sui and Marchesa. I also want to hear what the boys have to say about the collection and the video isn't up on style.com. I can't stop thinking about Wednesday Adams.

Unsurprisingly, Rodarte's latest collection has lightened up since the glorious horror of S/S 2010. Truthfully, you cannot get much darker than that. Even so, the inspiration for their rather ephemeral collection came from a dark place: the border towns of Mexico. The models could almost serve as proxies for the victimized women of these towns. They also played with the idea of sleep and the world between the awake and the asleep. The makeup reflected a sort of dazed, sleepwalking look that came through the clothes. I'm going to shut up now so my favorites can speak for themselves.

Vera always pleases the magpie in me. She's not afraid of jewelry or sparkle of any sort. This season, she was all about film noir and the femme fatale. Beautiful opera gloves and lots of black dominated the collection. She mentioned a complexity behind the pretty face, which I find to be quite intriguing. Her girl went a bit bad this season, but it looks oh so good. There is one thing I find troubling though, there are echoes of Lanvin S/S 2010. To be fair, it looks very Vera, but I can't help but to notice some similarities.

Precious Posen

The latest from Zac Posen was all about short skirts and sweet dresses. In fact, Tim Blanks compared the hemlines of the dresses and skirts to those of ice skaters. Notably absent from the collection were gowns, but have no fear, there was no shortage of glamour. A sort of fur bootie was living proof that Zac has not lost his sense of excess. Seeing as dresses are what he does best, I haven't featured any of the pants in the show, though this decision wasn't at all conscious. These are clothes to live in, clothes to have fun in.

I admire such a spirit.
This collection serves as a reminder to never lose it.
