I have fallen behind, yet again... Surprise surprise. And for this reason, editing must be done. The problem with that, is that the talent in Paris is unparalelled. That's not to say that deisgners who show in Paris are neccesarily the most talented (Miuccia showed in Milan, of course), but that the list of talented designers showing in Paris is extensive to the point that it's ridiculous. One of these such designers is Alber Ebaz, who designs for one of my very favorite houses, Lanvin.

Last season, Alber blew me away with a Forties-inspired, femme fatale look. At the beginning of his S/S 2010 collection, the pieces echoed this look, but what soon emerged was an pop of color that head my head spinning. The pallete went back and forth, creating an exciting effect. Alber also experimented with the layering of fabric in dresses, making it look as though two merged into one. There were suits, there were jumpsuits, there were dresses, there was draping, there was astounding construction, there was sparkle, there was shine. I am still in a state of awe. From the clothes themselves, to the jewelry, everything was amazing. Truthfully, I should just post all the looks, but that would be a bit excessive. Even for me. There are 52 total. Here are 25.

The Rick Owens show was something of an architectural dream. I can't quite fathom his inspirations or how he executed such incredible construction, but I will say it was beautiful. He is one of those designers that people call "edgy" because his work does not fit the mold. But with "friends" like these, who needs the mold?

Balmain

From the man who inspired countless knockoffs, came another round of glittery, strong looks for Spring/Summer 2010. Christophe Decarnin has not stopped the party at Balmain, but declared war on all things unfashionable. The models were powerful soldiers of style wearing updated camouflage and military jackets with shoulder tassels. The collection also included short Grecian looks that transformed women like Sasha Pivovarova into glamorous gladiators. Balmania was the result of Fall/Winter 2009, so I'm curious to see how the young (and not so young) jet set will embrace this collection. It's sparkly, it's sexy, it's strong. What's not to love? I'm a bit obsessed myself. Surely girls everywhere will be snagging these pieces up as fast as possible... or at least imitations...

Balenciaga

When I saw Balenciaga on style.com, I squealed with glee. If it were anything else, I might not disclose this information because "squealing" is rather embarrassing. If it were anything else, I might not have reacted the same way either. Ever since I became interested in fashion, Balenciaga has been a favorite house to watch. Nicholas Ghesquière does things that most designers couldn't even dream of. Whether it be soft or hard, I'm always head-over-heels in love. His collection for fall/winter 2009 was quite subdued as I remember it. Sure there was a great deal of eroticism, but it was all done in a sort of quiet, sensual way. Nicholas went in a much different direction for spring, with a tougher, urban Balenciaga girl. There were touches of sport and street throughout. The prints were in vivid colors an all very modern. Even hoodies made a significant appearance. Keep in mind, these were Balenciaga hoodies. Pops of color peeked out behind fabric, making the pieces all the more special. Through it all, Nicholas showed his vision, while honoring the great Cristobal Balenciaga.
