Giambattista has a thing for pretty young things. His ideas always keep the most readily available inspiration in mind—the flocks of "It" girls that wear his fabulous clothes. That being said, these girls are not his sole inspiration. Marie Antoinette's milkmaid fantasy world, the Petit Trianon, informed the lighter side of the collection, featuring delicate white looks and Baroque prints. As is the case with Antoinette, Valli loves a bad girl. His dresses this season were short and at times completely sheer. Other less obvious examples of rebellion were the emphasis on flat shoes and the pairing of a fabulous cloud-like skirt with a collared shirt. Reflective pockets were another less-than-subtle addition that enlivened simple tops, though with Valli's inclusion of bright citrus hues and leopard, this collection could hardly be deemed lifeless. There is also the liberal use of volume. For me, Valli's girl is fearless with an insatiable lust for life, and I appreciate the fact that in the serious world of fashion, such spirits don't go unnoticed. Bravo Giambattista!
