Same DNA, but Born This Way

Just two days after releasing "Born This Way" as a single, Lady GaGa performed the song at the otherwise excruciatingly boring Grammy Awards. She came onstage in the Hussein Chalayan womb she was pushed across the red carpet in. She emerged in a nude Mugler latex look, which even included a trench coat and a hat. The skeletal ridges on her face, pointed shoulders, and the highest of ponytails completed the look. I want to grow Rapunzel ponytail now. The performance itself was minimal for GaGa in that the set was fairly simple and because dancing was the focal point. A trip to a beautifully grotesque organ—with heads incased in bubbles sprouting from it and erratically placed pipes—was the main step away from the intense dancing. The reasoning behind all of this seems to coincide with the idea of birth. The egg is an obvious symbol, while the "natural" look of nude fabric and the spareness of the set also contributed to the idea. It's a performance that I think may be unfortunately written off for it's relative simplicity, but I found it to be absolutely exhilarating. I doubt the video will remain on youtube for long, but for the hell of it...

Later, GaGa accepted the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album in another Mugler look, which exaggerated areas such as her clavicle, her breasts, and her ass. The look incorporated ideas of anatomy, development, and evolution.

Her final outfit of the night was Mugler yet again, this time with a Franc Fernandez hat. She still wore the shoulder pieces, but this look was much more streamlined. It's hard to say what stage this represents in the development of the night's wardrobe, but perhaps it's simply the result of refinery, of a completed evolution. It seems too simple an answer, but perhaps we will find out in the near future. In any case, it's gorgeous. Her "Born This Way" tattoo looks sick with those boots.
