After last season's whiteout, I am thrilled to say Alexander Wang has rekindled his relationship with black—a favorite we have in common. With it, came the slightly sexy, rough and tumble Alexander Wang girls that I love. As if that wasn't enough, his collection had a heavy focus on outerwear, my very favorite kind of garment to wear. In fact, the outerwear statement the designer was putting forth was one of experimentation, in which he fused elements of different outerwear pieces together. A fur jacket might meet a tuxedo lapel or knit might run into leather, as it did in the poncho on Aline Weber that had me gasping for air. That's another thing, Wang featured several poncho hybrid pieces, and anyone who knows a bit about my style knows I'm a sucker for a poncho. There was something powerful about the outerwear, as if the girls were urban warriors of some sort. Yes, it continues to get better. Other than the cross-garment integration, Wang's collection made a statement about luxury. The designer pointedly satirized the institution of luxury∨ as he said it—"the dogma of rich bitch"—putting fur on many of the garments, shoes, and sunglasses, as well as including excessively metallic loafer heels. It was a playful statement, but didn't take away from the collection. A series of looks with silk strips flowing from skirts (and a top in one case) closed the show, perhaps mimicking luxury coming undone. He told style.com, "Hopefully it's the kind of luxury she can kind of put on and roll around on the floor in." There's nothing more to say. I'm absolutely obsessed.
