Today is the perfect day to cover Prabal Gurung's latest triumph, which illustrates what happens when love goes wrong. The inspiration for the collection was Miss Havisham from the Charles Dickens novel,
Great Expectations. Miss Havisham is a single woman, tortured by her broken heart. After being left at the altar, she lives to cause men pain. Prabal told style.com, "Her heart got broken and we all know what it feels like at one point or the other and there's something beautiful about that." Being a lover of Amy Winehouse and appreciating the honesty of sadness, I couldn't agree more. The torture and witchy nature of the character manifested itself in the clothes Gurung showed. There's something delightfully wicked about the way the fabric appears to flow. The reds created a sense of rage, while the sheer black fabrics used felt like a tumble into the depths of depression. Black bandage-like tights gave the girls power and made the looks all the more devilish. Several gorgeously fading furs may have symbolized something slipping away, whether that be optimism or even sanity. Not only does the collection have a fascinating story, but it's also technically quite impressive. The printed-looking dress on Liu Wen is actually a masterfully embroidered piece. This collection was extremely painful to edit and yet I still have 20 looks featured below. The darkness is quite an unexpected departure coming from Prabal, but he's proved he has it in him to do it extraordinarily well. Prabal Gurung continues to impress me and exceed my expectations. Without a doubt, I will be falling for this brokenhearted girl for quite a while. Happy Valentine's Day.
