Without a doubt, Burberry is the most iconic brand in all of London. Christopher Bailey—the chief creative director—has worked feverishly to maintain the heritage of the brand, while pushing modernity and starting trends. There is a reason my friend Kim searched through New York for the perfect piece of shearling. Unfortunately, I missed the boat on blogging about that collection (F/W 2010). I still cry to this day. Another great achievement by the brand was having the most attractive waiters seen anywhere on Fashion's Night Out. But back to the collection... Bailey's latest was inspired by Thomas Burberry's first designs for biker boys in the early 1900's. Those ideas were morphed into a sexy collection of leather leggings, shrunken leather jackets, and even a killer motorcycle jacket-inspired trench. Flickers of more classical Burberry were still present in the form of neutral trenches, but punched up with pops of color. Within the context of the biker reference, color might seem an odd choice, but Bailey included it rather seamlessly. I certainly think this collection is a far cry from Burberry's past, but it will be adored by legions of fashion followers.
