Givenchy

Riccardo Tisci's obsession with all things Gothic often informs his work for Givenchy and this season was no exception. It was seen most significantly in the length of the sheer fabrics he used to swath his dark creations in. Those lengths, along with the hair also gave the show a bit of a pagan, witchy vibe. Layering below the waist proved to be a interesting and wonderfully modern aspect of the collection. Skinny trousers under sheer skirts were a particularly appealing example. The use of leopard print was also a significant motif—even employed in the sheer fabrics—giving the collection a lighter, luxe aggression, as opposed to the black zippered pieces. Undeniably, the singularity of Tisci's offerings was apparent, but I feel that it made his work all the more intense. His ability to differentiate even within a narrow spectrum of ideas should be applauded. Every show the man designs for is a tour de force of beautiful darkness and I cannot get enough. May his haunted mind remain unscathed by the power of the light.
