Haider Ackermann

Haider Ackermann has done the seemingly impossible: make motorcycle-style leather pieces seem fresh again. By twisting, draping, tying, and tucking the designer created a collection that was achieved a masterful discussion between hard and soft elements. Pops of color against the black zippered leather made it seem all the more relevant and alive. This collection was undeniably sexy within both the daywear and evening segments of the show, with plunging necklines and backless garments, but somehow never seemed raunchy. It's rather baffling. A Japanese inspiration is present, especially within the tying techniques and construction, but it was not present anywhere else. Ackermann appears to be one of those designers more interested in the garment itself rather than the concept and he does it brilliantly. I think I'll be lusting after some of these pieces for a very long time.
