Alexander Wang

Over the past two seasons, Alexander Wang has successfully produced something that makes me immediately uncomfortable, but becomes something lovely shortly after. Last season, it was varsity athletics. This season, it was velvet and Wall Street. For me, the rock and roll queen is so much easier to swallow. I think these collections show growth and creative maturity. He has conquered these different subjects, all the while staying true to himself, creating sexy clothes for pretty young things.

Wang brought up a juxtaposition of Wall Street bankers and gypsy people in reference to his F/W collection. This contradiction gave way to atypical suiting and potentially dangerous use of velvet (every 90's girl's style regret). I admire Alex's sense of ambition and abandon, two things that don't often mesh well. And besides, fashion shouldn't be comfortable to look at.
Fashion should move us.
Wang has certainly moved me.
