Christopher Kane

England's royal family has always resonated with me as a integral part of the nation's culture. A creative reference to the family should therefore be of no surprise. This season, Christopher Kane has built his collection around the persona of Princess Margaret, a sort of bad girl within the British Royal Family. The neon colors used throughout the collection channeled a disregard for the proper, while the cut of many of the garments spoke to sophistication. Kane worked in Yakuza tattoo prints towards the end of the show, further outlining the juxtaposition between what's considered good and bad. It's this kind of tension between ideas that drives me absolutely wild. I cannot even remember the last time I wore neon, but Kane is one of those designers that makes you want to wear shades of often obnoxious color. He makes them seem expressive rather than childish or boisterous. An even greater accomplishment would be getting the Queen into one of these looks. We can always pretend.
