Prabal Gurung

Prabal Gurung's popularity has risen meteorically over the past couple of seasons. His most recent collection surely will not disappoint his supporters, Voguettes and downtown girls alike. The show started with a handful of looks featuring the brightest color I've seen him use, creating a geometric Pop Art effect. A sudden turn into his more favored neutrals seemed a bit harsh, but the garments themselves were fabulous enough to make you forget the moment of lacking cohesion. Pops of color resurfaced throughout the rest of the collection, but they appeared in a less shocking, more elegant manner (not that that's necessarily the most desirable approach). There was no shortage of glamor, with paillettes and feathers even covering looks that might work for day—I don't make too much of a distinction myself. Tea-length cocktail dresses appeared simultaneously young and chic with a bit of embellishment. The full-length and slitted evening pieces also soared into the realm of subtly sexy. Already a master of cut, this up-and-coming designer has already captured my heart and that of others.
