Matthew Williamson

London Fashion Week has come and gone to my dismay, so I'm hoping to post my favorite shows in a timely manner. Britain's resident bohemian prince, Matthew Williamson, created a collection this season inspired by a shipwrecked beauty. Of course she has some semblance of a wardrobe, but begins to build upon it with natural materials. The evening dressesresembled parachutes, with harness-like straps and drawstrings cutting through the billowy skirts. The color palette was generally quite earthy, but the clothing was structured enough that it stepped away from what we might expect from Williamson. The designer's use of embellishment and fringe featured on several garments had me craving a deserted island myself. I'm not sure I'd last very long, but there is always dress-up.
